G'day from Australia

G'day from Australia to everyone at Conway Public Library.

I'm Barbara the children and youth services librarian, and I work at the Coburg Library, the largest of the five branches at Moreland City Libraries. We are in the middle of winter here in Melbourne and also in the middle of the 2 week school holidays / semester break. We run a program of activities at the library during this time, and yesterday we had over 100 children in to see Mike Jackson, a well known children's performer.

Currently I am reading 'Black Water by David Metzenthen' and 'The Shaggy Gully Times' by Jackie French. Both these books have been shortlisted by the Children's Book Council of Australia for Book for the Year. Black Water is set in Australia during the First World War and is a bit dark. Shaggy Gully is a hilarious newspaper presented in a picturebook format. Here is a joke from it; 'How many koalas does it take to change a light bulb? Hey, how many light bulbs have YOU seen in a gum tree?'. Hope to hear from you soon!, Barbara
